1985 Moscow Skate

Wainman continued her comeback with a solid 4th place finish at Moscow Skate, in a tough competitive field. She was 1st in the figures, 4th in the short program and 5th in the long. The competition was won by white-hot US bronze medalist Caryn Kadavy, who had just won Skate Canada with a four-triple performance. Anna Kondrashova, the 1984 World silver medalist, finished 2nd, and Natalia Lebedeva, a Russian skater ranked 7th in the world, came 3rd.

I don’t have any details about this competition, other than that Wainman fell in the long program. Canadian Press reports say she fell on a spin, but I think more likely on the triple salchow. And I seem to recall reading that she had skated a clean short. She rocked the short program during the 1985/1986 season, in contrast to her younger career where the short program was usually an obstacle course for her.
