Wainman’s campaign to recapture her Canadian title continued with a stop at the 1986 Eastern Divisionals in January. She finished 1st, and won all three portions of the competition. She once again wowed the crowd with a clean short program, continuing a her extraordinary run of perfect double axel-double loop combinations. The long program sounded pretty solid too, although the Globe and Mail said the win was not achieved without error. Apparently the triple salchow was overrotated, and two double axels “came off less than perfectly”. But Wainman told the reporter it was the best triple she’d done in competition in a long time, and that she would have a triple loop for Canadians. I don’t remember who the competition was, but it probably included Dianne Takeuchi, another Cricket Club skater then entering senior.
If anyone knows any more details about her performance at this competition, please post or get in touch.
